Importance of Using Peracetic Acid

One of the main challenges associated with certain disinfectants is the development of microbial resistance due to their widespread use, which poses a threat to public health. Therefore, using disinfectants that do not contribute to microbial resistance (green alternatives) is an effective approach to overcoming this limitation.

 

Peracetic acid (CH₃CO₃H) is an organic peroxide compound formed by the reaction of acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Due to its high oxidation potential, it exhibits strong antimicrobial properties across a broad range of temperatures and pH levels, without causing microbial resistance.

 

One of the key advantages of peracetic acid over chlorine-based disinfectants, which can produce mutagenic or carcinogenic chlorinated hydrocarbons, is its high stability and ability to decompose into non-toxic byproducts.

 

e-Peroxy 5%

E-Proxy 5% is an exceptionally powerful disinfectant effective against a wide spectrum of microorganisms without causing microbial resistance. It is a highly safe compound and, due to the absence of hazardous residues, is classified as a no-rinse disinfectant. The use of this high-performance disinfectant at the final stage of cleaning ensures a complete CIP (Clean-in-Place) process and effective microbial contamination control.

 

Mechanism of Action

The oxidizing strength of various disinfectants is shown in the table below. As indicated, peracetic acid is among the strongest oxidizers.

The primary mechanism of oxidation involves electron transfer—the stronger the oxidizer, the faster the electron transfer, leading to rapid microbial deactivation or destruction.

Storage Conditions and Shelf Life

Store in a cool, well-ventilated place (below 25°C) and away from direct sunlight, in its original packaging.

Always keep the container tightly sealed after each use and avoid returning diluted solutions to the original container.

Store and transport containers in an upright position.

Optimal shelf life under proper storage conditions is one year from the production date.

 

Safety Precautions

 

  • Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a mask, gloves, safety goggles, and appropriate work clothing when handling the product.
  • Keep away from incompatible substances, including reducing agents and metal salts.
  • Store away from heat sources and flammable materials, and strictly avoid smoking in storage areas.
  • To prevent contamination, do not return used solution to the original container.
  • If inhaled, move the affected person to fresh air immediately.
  • In case of skin or eye contact, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water (for at least 15 minutes).
  • If swallowed, rinse the mouth and drink plenty of water while avoiding vomiting.
  • If any contact occurs, seek medical attention immediately after initial first aid.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not mix this product with other chemicals.
